New Testament Church (rebuild)

We Are a New Testament Church

The Seneca Church of Christ is part of the universal body of believers established by Jesus Christ, the Messiah, who declared,
"I will build my church" (Matthew 16:18). We follow the New Testament pattern alone as our authority—rejecting man-made creeds—just as the first-century church did, founded in Jerusalem in fulfillment of prophecy
(Isaiah 2:3; Acts 2:5-47).

Our Commitment to New Testament Practice

We add nothing to and take nothing from God's Word
(Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:5-6; Revelation 22:18-19). There is no earthly hierarchy—only Christ's authority through the New Testament pattern
(Matthew 7:13-14).

Our Identity in Christ

As a New Testament church belonging to Christ, we wear His name alone (Romans 16:16). Scripture describes the church as:

  • The Body of Christ (Ephesians 5:23; Colossians 1:18)
  • The Bride of Christ (Revelation 21:9)
  • The Church of God (1 Corinthians 1:2, in context of Christ's lordship)

As New Testament Christians, we are called:

  • Disciples (John 15:8; Acts 11:26)
  • Saints (Romans 1:7; Philippians 1:1)
  • Christians (Acts 11:26; 1 Peter 4:16)
  • Children of God (Galatians 3:26)

New Testament Leadership

  • Christ is the Head (Ephesians 1:22; 5:23)
  • Each congregation is autonomous, led by qualified elders (also called shepherds or overseers; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Timothy 3:1-7)
  • Deacons assist in service (Acts 6:1-6; 1 Timothy 3:8-13)
  • Preachers/evangelists teach but hold no authority over the congregation
